Palm Beach Atlantic University Comes to Wellington

Palm Beach Atlantic University is opening a new campus in Wellington in January. The private Christian school has offered adult courses in various Wellington locations for about a decade, but now professors and students will have a permanent facility. The new 12,000-square-foot campus in Wellington Reserve will include eight classrooms, a computer laboratory and about 10 faculty and staff offices. "This will allow Wellington and central county residents the opportunity to pursue graduate and undergraduate degrees from a top-rated institution of higher learning," Wellington Mayor Tom Wenham said. The first program offered in Wellington will be a bachelor's degree in organizational management. A master's degree in organizational leadership will be available beginning next fall. Other degrees in business and counseling are being considered for west-county students, most of whom are expected to be adults with associate degrees. It is estimated that about 55 students will enroll in spring classes. A goal of Palm Beach Atlantic University President David Clark has been to increase enrollment at PBAU and add branch campuses. The school has one branch campus in Orlando, with about 190 students enrolled. Another campus could open in Tampa next fall. The university went west to Wellington instead of north or south because it could have a "highly visible" site in an area with no other university, Clark said. "Marketing studies revealed a dynamic and growing population of potential adult students who are looking for a convenient way to pursue their undergrad or graduate degree goals," Clark said.
